Ein Ort, den jeder kennt, über den aber niemand spricht: Die öf-
fentliche Toilette findet als Bauaufgabe kaum Beachtung, obwohl
sie – wie wahrscheinlich kaum ein anderer Gebäudetypus – als In-
begriff zivilisatorischer Hygiene gelten kann und als Teil fast jeder
Art von öffentlichem Raum unverzichtbar ist. Ob als Friedhofstoi-
lette, auf einem öffentlichen Parkplatz oder an einer Straßenkreu-
zung – im Folgenden zeigen wir drei Beispiele, die selbst das Aus-
treten zur architektonisch wertvollen Erfahrung machen können.
A place that everyone knows but nobody talks about: the public
toilet hardly receives any attention as a building task, although it
can – like probably hardly any other type of building – be regarded
as the epitome of civilizing hygiene and is indispensable as part
of almost every kind of public space. Whether as a cemetery toi-
let, on a public parking lot or at a crossroads, in the following we
present three examples that can turn relieving oneself into an ar-
chitecturally valuable experience.
