Damals wie heute: ein angemessenes Entrée • Then as today: a suitable entrance

D er Komplex des Festspielhauses in Baden-Baden vereint ganz un-
terschiedliche Bauhistorien. Während das eigentliche Opern- und
Konzerthaus aus der Hand des erst kürzlich verstorbenen Wiener Archi-
tekten Wilhelm Holzbauer (1930–2019) stammt, geht das Empfangsge -
bäude im Stil der Neorenaissance als ein Kulturdenkmal in die heutige
Kubatur ein. Dieses entspringt dem ehemaligen Stadtbahnhof, der be-
reits 1845 eröffnet, 1977 aber stillgelegt wurde. Mit dem Aida Café im
Foyer des zweiten Ranges fügt Innenarchitektin Eva-Maria Jahn ein
neues, zeitgemäßes Gastronomieangebot in Pastell- und Naturtönen
hinzu. Damit schlägt sie einen weiteren Bogen innerhalb der hier veror-
teten Baugeschichte. Durch ihren Rückgriff auf dezente Materialien ent-
steht ein harmonischer Kontrast gegenüber dem historischen Entrée,
während hochwertige Möbel dessen Prächtigkeit aufnehmen und Opu-
lenz vermitteln. Die Kollektionen des Möbelherstellers Rolf Benz aus Na-
gold ergänzen sich dabei mit organischen Formen und Polsteroptiken
in Stoff und Leder. Egal ob Clubsessel 562, Sessel 384, Stuhlsessel 641
oder das Sofaprogramm Volo – die Loungemöbel unterstützen in ver-
schiedenen Arrangements den festlichen Rahmen. Zugleich bieten sie
in ihrer Leichtigkeit und Eigenständigkeit ein hohes Maß an Flexibilität,
das den Abläufen der angebotenen Kulturprogramme entgegenkommt.

hall was built according to plans by the just recently deceased Vien-
nese architect Wilhelm Holzbauer (1930-2019), the Neo-Renaissance
reception building is a cultural monument of the ensemble. It had
been converted from the former city railway station opened already
in 1845 but closed in 1977. With the Aida Café in the foyer of the upper
circle, interior architect Eva-Maria Jahn adds a new, contemporary ga-
stronomic facility in pastel and natural shades. Due to her resorting
to unpretentious materials, a harmonious contrast is produced to the
historic entrance while high-quality furniture takes up the latter’s ma-
gnificence and conveys opulence. With organic forms and upholstery
in fabric and leather, the collections by the furniture manufacturer
Rolf Benz from Nagold complement the look. No matter whether the
562 club chair, the 384 armchair, the 641 chair/armchair 641 or the
Volo range of sofas – in various arrangements, the lounge furniture
supports the festive setting. With its lightness and individuality, it at
the same time offers a high degree of flexibility which benefits the se-
quences of the cultural programmes being offered. During the limited
