&.MEDIA GROUP OFFICE
IN AMSTERDAM
„Wer hier arbeitet, begibt sich Located in the Oud-Zuid city district of Amsterdam and
not far from the famous Vondelpark, the agency of the
gewissermaßen in einen Urlaubsmodus.“ two founders Britt Hogenhuis and Sophie van der Schaft
Studio Sluijzer moved into the new office premises last year. Formerly
used as a garage, they now have an atmospheric ambi-
ence that almost makes you long for faraway places.
Working here does put you in holiday mode, as it were.
T he new office premises of the media- and content agency &.media
group have a definite holiday feel to them: chlorophyll in large clay
pots evokes the calming vegetation of tropical destinations. The design
thus evokes a sense of being connected to the natural world even while
working within the confines of an office environment. But the functio-
nality of the office has also been carefully considered, with ergonomic
seating, for instance, and an overall layout that fosters collaboration and
creativity among the members of the team. At the same time, the furnis-
hings – consistently kept in natural colours – are reminiscent of the casu-
al chic of modern beach houses. The pivot doors, which rotate around
their central axis and consist of wooden frames with panels made of
vertical slats, are a particularly attractive and space-dividing element.
They separate the actual office wing from the entrance and lounge area
in front, which can also be used for events if required. The centrepiece
here is the elegant bar with a white marble counter. Right next to it is a
cosy lounge that even offers a pool table for temporary relaxing and fun.
65 workstations are grouped around two interior rooms with wooden
and glass partitions in the rear office area. One serves as a meeting
room, the other as a green retreat where people can relax from time
to time. The glazed roof provides natural light from above. The light
direction and the lighting concept generally played a major role in the
design. This can be seen not least in the decorative pendant- and floor
lamps installed here. The two Amsterdam design studios Studio Sluij-
zer and 88 Projects, whose teams are jointly responsible for the design
concept, took no less care when it came to the important issue of the
room acoustics. In this respect too, a pleasant working environment was
created in the 1,000-square-metre office. Appropriate sound-absorbing
materials were used to optimize the acoustics. The differently designed
areas – a mixture of open areas and enclosed meeting rooms – mean
that the office can be used and staged flexibly both now as well as in
the future, all depending on the respective current requirements. And
