OLX GROUP
IN LISBON
„Traditionelle portugiesische Fliesen Selling and buying used goods online – with this busi-
ness model, OLX Group has been active in 45 countries,
waren unser Ausgangspunkt.“ analogous to eBay. The premises in Lisbon, occupied a
Pedra Silva Arquitectos year ago, boast a lot of local atmosphere. The working
environment designed by Pedra Silva Architects reflects
Portugal’s cultural tradition – and the company’s self-
conception – in the form of tiles.
P edra Silva Architects are known for tailor-made solutions with
a high recognition effect. Many projects of the Portuguese
architectural office reflect this approach. At the new Lisbon branch
of the OLX Group, the focus on a design leitmotif has once again
proved its worth. Ceramic and textile tiles lend the office of the
online marketplace its striking appearance. Pedra Silva Architects
managed to develop un identity-generating design and floor plan
layout for a whopping 4,500 square metres, located in a commer-
cial building built in 1998. The architects found a conceptionally
and acoustically convincing solution for the open-plan offices
which are dominated by coffered concrete ceilings. The design con-
cept is as informal as the OLX Group's work ethic. The workplaces
positioned along the façade benefit optimally from daylight. Cubes
and modules installed in the open-plan room are used to zone
areas, avoid staccato-like repeating rows of tables and thus help to
improve acoustics and concentration. The implants serve as mee-
ting rooms, telephone booths, and rooms for spontaneous gathe-
ríngs. On the outside, they are adorned with richly ornamented
ceramic tiles. Inside are used acoustically effective textile tiles,
which Pedra Silva Architects had produced especially for the OLX

Originals, founded in 1947, manufactured more than 800 square
metres of textile tiles from 100 percent wool as commissioned by
the architects. A further 135 square metres were integrated into fili-
gree metal room dividers in the form of rectangular wool
panels. The colourfulness of the lively metropolis of Lisbon is
reflected in the office premises of the OLX Group. Coloured carpets,
room dividers, panels, and sofas contribute to the interior design
quality. Pedra Silva Architects even speak of a "domestic feeling".
In this context, the solid oak of the wood-glass partition also plays
an important role – this, too, was designed by the architects. Crafts-
