I m 65.000 Quadratmeter umfassenden Booking.com-Headquarter in Amsterdam, ent-
worfen von UNStudio und HofmanDujardin, befindet sich im fünften Stockwerk eines
von insgesamt drei Restaurants. Dieses Chef‘s Restaurant wird jede Saison von einem
anderen bekannten Koch bewirtschaftet und wurde von Studio Modijefsky als farbenfro-
her Sehnsuchtsort gestaltet, der in verschiedenen Atmosphären Tagträume zulässt. Die
1500 Quadratmeter große Fläche ist in fünf unterschiedliche Inselgruppen unterteilt, die
den Raum in kleinere Bereiche abgrenzt und so zugänglicher macht. Jede dieser Inseln ver-
körpert durch eigene Attribute ein Thema: View, Fire, Canyon, Flight und Treasure Island
sind in ihrer Namensgebung an die Gestaltung der Verweilmöglichkeiten angelehnt. So
hat man im „View“-Areal einen Ausblick über den Innenhof des Gebäudekomplexes oder
das Hafenbecken am Kanal. „Fire“ macht durch dunkelrotes Leder und Moorholz sei-
nem Namen alle Ehre; genau wie „Canyon“ durch eine teils durchbrochene Wand. Im
„Flight“-Bereich erinnern transparente Vorhänge und silbrig schimmernde Deckenaufbau-
ten an Wolken, während „Treasure Island“ als grüne Oase lockt. Der Übergang zwischen
den Bereichen ist dabei fließend. Neutrale Zwischentöne verblenden die Farben nahtlos
ineinander. Materialien, etwa Terrazzo-Oberflächen, sind durch den wiederkehrenden Ein-

T he 65,000-square-metre Booking.com headquarters in the heart of Amsterdam,
designed by UNStudio and HofmanDujardin as the lead interior architect, houses
one of three restaurants on the fifth floor. This Chef‘s Restaurant is hosted by a different
well-known chef each season and was designed by Studio Modijefsky as a colourful place
of longing that allows daydreams in different atmospheres. To create a spatial design
concept that translates the joy of travelling, the 1500-square-metre area is divided into
five different island groups, which divide the space into smaller areas, thereby making
it more accessible. Each of these islands embodies a theme through its own attributes:
View, Fire, Canyon, Flight and Treasure Island take their names from the design of the
places to linger. The “View” area, for example, offers a vista of the inner courtyard of the
building complex or the harbour basin on the canal. “Fire” lives up to its name with dark
red leather and swamp wood; just as does “Canyon” due to a partially openwork wall. In
the “Flight” area, transparent curtains and silvery shimmering ceiling structures are remi-
niscent of clouds, while “Treasure Island” entices you into a green oasis. The transition
between the areas is fluid. Neutral intermediate tones seamlessly blend the colours into
one another. Materials such as terrazzo surfaces are omnipresent due to their recurring
