APARTMENT NEDU

IN MADRID

S obald die Tür ins Schloss fällt, kann der Bewohner des Apartments Nedu den Trubel
der Stadt hinter sich lassen. In dem kleinen Refugium spürt man die Nähe zur tou-
ristischen Plaza Mayor im Herzen von Madrid nicht. Ainhoa Martín und Francisco Peláez
vom spanischen Planungsbüro Martín Peláez schufen für ihren Auftraggeber einen Ort,
der Rückzugsmöglichkeit und zugleich Raum für Geselligkeit bietet. Mithilfe von expres-
siven Farben, geometrischen Formen und dem Genius Loci entstand ein Domizil, das
dem lebhaften Charakter des Bewohners Tribut zollt. Im Bestand wurden typische kon-
struktive Elemente wie Stützen und Holzbalken freigelegt, die trennende Raumstruktur
aufgebrochen und die abgehängte Decke entfernt, um die historische Architektur von
1882 sichtbar zu machen. Farbe zieht ein, inspiriert von den vielfältigen Schattierungen
des Himmels: Die Palette reicht von klarem Blau bis zu den schillernden Orange- und
Violetttönen eines Sonnenuntergangs. Die farbigen Elemente durchbrechen den neuen
cleanen Look der Wohnung und spiegeln die fröhliche, facettenreiche Persönlichkeit des
Besitzers wider. Die geschwungene Form einer Wolke stand Pate für die Geometrie des
Küchentisches, der dank transparenter Stützen zu schweben scheint. Luftig, locker und
leicht liegt das Apartment Nedu über den Dächern von Madrid und ist zu einem individu-
ellen Zuhause geworden, oder wie der Bewohner es nennt: My happy place!
O nce the door clicks shut, the resident of the Nedu apartment can leave the hustle
and bustle of the Spanish capital city behind. The proximity to the touristy Plaza
Mayor in the heart of Madrid is not evident in this small refuge. Ainhoa Martín and
Francisco Peláez from the Spanish planning office Martín Peláez created a space for
their client that offers both retreat and a place for socialising. Using expressive colours,
geometric shapes and the genius loci, they crafted a domicile that pays tribute to the
lively character of the occupant. In the existing apartment, typical constructive ele-
ments like columns and wooden beams were exposed, the separating room structure
was dismantled and the suspended ceiling removed to reveal the historical architec-
ture from 1882. Colour enters the scene, inspired by the diverse shades of the sky: the
spectrum ranges from clear blue to the shimmering orange and violet hues of a sunset.
The coloured elements loosen up the new clean look of the apartment and reflect the
cheerful, multifaceted personality of the owner. The curved shape of a cloud inspired
the geometry of the kitchen table, which seems to float thanks to its transparent sup-
ports. Airy, casual, and light, the Nedu apartment sits above the roofs of Madrid, having
become an individual home or, as the resident calls it: My happy place!
