For this project, the clients – a family with two children – wanted “something neu-
tral” and yet autonomous to bring their many works of art to the fore. On the floor,
jointless mineral surfacer was used which, in contrast to conventional industrial
flooring, is more easer to clean and has a “cloudy” texture. As a fifth level, the cei-
lings of exposed concrete have a strong effect on the rooms. Victoria-Maria Geyer
added haptically and visually soft carpets, textiles, curtains and upholstered furni-
ture to the reverberant, hard surfaces. On the top floor, built-in furniture extending
from the floor to the ceiling give the rooms their generous, orderly looking appea-
rance. Unusually positioned windows are here and there: in the living room, next to
the fireplace, a small window right above the floor; at the front side below the barrel
roof, a bookshelf of dark oak frames a slender window.
New concept for kitchen and bathrooms
The about 30 years old bathrooms and the kitchen were completely redesigned. In
the bathrooms, as a contrast to the strong texture of the exposed-concrete ceiling,
Victoria-Maria Geyer had bright travertine installed on the floors and the walls. The
kitchen surfaces alternate between dark Spanish marble, green-glazed French lava
stone, green enamel and polished brass. In the “blue salon” – library and TV room
all in one – the walls, ceiling, built-in shelving and -cabinets are painted mono- Foto: www.archipicture.eu
chrome blue. The choice of colour looks like a reference to Ernst Gisel’s Blaues Ate-
lier he donated to ETH Zurich in 1999 and where his archive is now kept.
