A nlässlich des 90. Jahrestages der Association of Siamese Architects under Royal
Patronage, der Gemeinschaft der thailändischen Architektenschaft, wurde von HAS
design and research eine dauerhafte Installation für Veranstaltungen und Vorträge fertig-
gestellt. Die sogenannte Aluminum-Grotte entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit der thailän-
dischen Aluminiumfirma S-ONE Group und KIN und befindet sich inmitten der Ausstel-
lungsflächen als öffentlich zugängliche Zone des Impact Exhibition Centers in Bangkok.
Aus Hunderttausenden von Aluminiumstäben zusammengesetzt, soll die eindrucksvolle
Konstruktion nicht nur der Schwerkraft trotzen und Assoziationen mit industriellen Zahn-
rädern hervorrufen, sondern darüber hinaus als Sinnbild für die Exportkraft Südostasiens
im Bereich der Metallerzeugnisse gelesen werden. Besonders effektvoll auf die Aufent-
haltsqualität der Fläche wirkt sich der an eine Schlucht erinnernde Aufbau aus, der einen
Ort des Rückzuges erzeugt, ohne sich gänzlich vor der Öffentlichkeit zu verschließen. Eine
Lichtdecke soll dem so geschützten Raum zusätzlich eine erhaben zeremonielle Note
verleihen, stützt den sanften Goldton der Metallstäbe und macht die besondere Struktur
der Installation sichtbar. HAS design and research sind überzeugt: „Dieser öffentliche
Raum verbindet Tradition und Zukunft durch ein unkonventionelles Konzept, welches das
Potenzial lokaler Handwerkskunst wieder entdeckbar macht.“
I n celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Association of Siamese Architects under
Royal Patronage, the community of Thai architects, HAS design and research has com-
pleted a permanent installation for events and lectures. Known as Aluminum Grotto
and Public Ground, this architectural work, located the middle of the exhibition area as
a publicly accessible zone of the Impact Exhibition Center in Bangkok, was created in
collaboration with Thai aluminium company S-ONE Group and KIN. Assembled from
hundreds of thousands of aluminium rods, the striking construction seems to defy gravity
and evokes associations with industrial gears. Beyond its aesthetic and structural appeal,
the Grotto symbolises Southeast Asia’s strength in metal production and export. The
valley-like structure is particularly effective in enhancing the quality of the space, creating
a place of retreat without completely closing itself off from the surrounding public. A
luminous ceiling lends the area an elevated, ceremonial atmosphere, complementing the
soft golden hue of the metal rods and revealing the intricate structure of the installation.
HAS design and research describes the project as a bridge between tradition and innova-
tion: “This public space merges past and future with an unconventional concept, allowing
Thai people to rediscover the potential of local craftsmanship.”
