Haltestelle für arktische Temperaturen

Keine Stadt Schwedens wächst derzeit so schnell wie Umeå. Um dabei den urbanen
Raum lebenswert zu gestalten, führt die Stadt zahlreiche Nachhaltigkeitsprojekte durch.
Exemplarisch sei hier die Bushaltestelle mit dem Arbeitstitel Station of Being vorgestellt.
Die überwiegend aus regionalem Holz gebaute Station wurde vom Rombout Frieling
lab und den Research Institutes of Sweden entworfen und soll das Warten auf den
Bus komfortabler machen. In den Wintermonaten können Fahrgäste sich mithilfe der

sogenannten Pods flexibel aus dem bis zu 30 Grad kalten Wind drehen. Eine abwechs-
lungsreiche Licht- und Soundbespielung sorgt zudem für einen kurzweiligen Aufenthalt.

No other city in Sweden is currently growing as fast as Umeå. To make the urban
space liveable, the city is implementing many sustainability projects. One example
is the “Station of Being” bus stop. Built mainly of timber from the region, it was de-
signed by the Rombout Frieling lab and the Research Institutes of Sweden and is
to make waiting for the bus more comfortable. Above all during the winter months,
passengers are able to flexibly escape the up to minus 30 degrees wind in so-called Fotos: Samuel Pettersson
Pods. A varied light- and sound projection additionally ensures an entertaining stay.
