D er Stuttgarter Westen ist geprägt von mächtigen Wohngebäuden mit reich verzierten
Gründer zeitfassaden. In den Ladenlokalen des Viertels fanden die Be wohner immer
schon alles, was sie für das tägliche Leben brauchten. Eine ehemalige Metzgerei ließ der
international tätige Hairstylist Ahmet Bilir vom Berliner Architektenduo Ester Bruzkus und
Patrick Batek in einen stilvollen Salon mit reichlich Altbau-Charme verwandeln. In die his-
torische Ein gangs front integrierte Stufen führen auf das Hochparterre, den Em pfangs -
bereich. Weiß gestrichene Wellenpaneele verbergen und bewahren hier die denkmalge-
schützten Jugend stilfliesen als klar abgesetzte und neu eingebrachte Schicht, lassen aber
den Blick auf einen Wandstreifen mit originaler Oberfläche frei. Einblicke in die übrigen
Räume werden über Durchgänge und ein in die Wand integriertes Schauregal ge währt.
Für den ganz in Grau gehaltenen Schneideraum haben Bruzkus Batek die eleganten
Messingmöbel der vier Schneideplätze ei gens entworfen. Rosa dominiert dagegen den
Wasch raum, wo der Bodenbelag von neu eingebrachtem Fischgrätparkett zu originalem
Terrazzoboden wechselt. Zwei Waschplätze sind in eine funktionale, matt schwarze
Konsole integriert und hinter einer eingestellten, mit dunklen Persol-Spiegelflächen beleg-
ten Box ist dezent das Farblabor verborgen. Durch die Veredelung des Altbaubestandes
mit erkennbar neuen Zutaten gelingt eine beinahe mondäne Salonatmosphäre.

S tuttgart‘s western district is characterised by mighty residential buildings with richly
adorned façades dating from the Wilhelminian period. The shops in this neighbour-
hood have always provided all the commodities people needed for their everyday life.
Ahmet Bilir, an internationally active hair stylist, commissioned architects Ester Bruzkus
and Patrick Batek from Berlin to convert a former butcher’s shop into a stylish salon with
the charm of an old building. Steps integrated into the historic entrance front lead to the
raised ground floor, the entrance area. Here, white wavy panels conceal and preserve the
listed Art Nouveau tiles as a clearly set off and newly added layer, but still allow a view
of the wall strip with the original surface. Insights into the other rooms are provided with
passageways and a display shelf integrated into the wall. For the cutting room with an
all-grey interior design, Bruzkus Batek have specifically designed the elegant brass furni-
ture of the four hairdressing places. Pink, on the other hand, dominates the washing
room, where the floor covering changes from newly laid herringbone parquet flooring to
the original terrazzo floor. Two washing places are integrated into a functional, matt black
console and the colouring lab is subtly hidden behind an inserted box with a cladding
made of dark Persol mirrored surfaces. The refinement of the existing old building with
recognisable new extras achieves an almost sophisticated salon atmosphere.
