O ur prologue first explains what made us draw up the manifesto to save architecture
and why it is absolutely essential to work on the attitude towards architecture – on
the part of architects and students but also as a society. Prologue: Awareness – in our
work as future architects, there is hardly a more significant capacity than having a feeling
for what is currently happening and for the space which surrounds us. In what kind of
present time are we actually living? First and foremost ranks our universal consumption,
encouraged by constant overstimulation. In second place is fear. Every one of us has a
kind of latent fear inside which is even deepened by the omnipresent precautionary mea-
sures. Wake up! From our observations, we deduce the phenomenon of “securicracy”,
the rule of safety, the control over people. The result of the symbiosis of consumption and
“securicracy” is the numbing of the individual which in the end means all the measures
are taken to subtly prevent the development of ideas against the establishment. We are
no longer thinking actively! The architecture of the present time is a reflection of our num-
bed state. We are forced to submit to investors, DIN standards and the EnEv energy-

sonable. With our work, we as students of architecture must not contribute any longer to
suppressed by economic laws when it is exactly those which have led to a homogenous

ding to the responsibility we as architects have in this society. It is completely up to us
since one thing is certain: Things are not how they are, they are how we are!
Seven points of the manifesto on saving architecture
In the seven points of our manifesto, we call on architects and students to take a posi-
tion according to the responsibility which architects have in this society and we make
it the task of the architects to once again raise the mainstream’s awareness of quality
architecture and its social relevance.
I. Architecture is art.
II. No ideas should not be expressed for fear of contradiction.
III. Do not rely only on the teachings by the authorities. Become autodidacts.
VI. We detest dogmas and norms which suppress our imagination.
V. We do not let economic laws bind us.
VI. We have to fight against the homogenization of architecture.
VII. We demand dangerous architecture.
In the last week of the semester, every day we made one point of the mani festo public
in the form of a performance at Stuttgart University. For each performance, we distribu-
ted little booklets with a detailed explanation regarding the individual points. You will
also find these explanations together with a photographic documentation of the cam-
paigns at www.manifantastisch.de. At Duplo Press, founded by Sven Tillack in the course
of his diploma thesis at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, we were able to have
our manifesto printed. On the Risograph, an edition of 100 copies was produced and furt-
her processed by us in the bindery of the Academy. The individual booklets with the pro-
logue, the manifestoes I to VI and the epilogue contain an explanation and the photogra-
phic documentation of our performances and are put together in a box. The graphic
design of the homepage and the publication is by Tobias Hönow who is studying com-
munication design. The loose form of the publication was chosen in order to emphasize
the relevance of each individual point. The printing process on the Risograph goes well
with the theme of the manifesto since, due to the sustainability of the printing inks based
on soy, the low cost and the extraordinary time efficiency, it is also used to print flyers.
