D as Lido, eine Institution des Pariser Nachtlebens, begann 1928 als
Badeanstalt auf der Avenue des Champs-Élysées. In den 1940er-Jah-
ren wurde diese zu einem Revuetheater umgebaut, in dem internationale
Künstler wie Laurel und Hardy oder Marlene Dietrich auftraten. 1977 zog
das Varieté in ein 1932 nach den Plänen von Architekt Jean Desbouis fer-
tiggestelltes Bürogebäude, ebenfalls in der berühmten Avenue. Wegen der
gefächerten Fassade wird der Bau auch „Akkordeon“ genannt – die Außen-
wand der obersten fünf Geschosse verläuft gezackt und setzt sich erkerhaft
von der darunterliegenden Fassade ab. Mit Auftritten von Weltstars wie
Tom Jones und Elton John setzte das Lido auch an diesem Ort seine Erfolgs-
geschichte fort. 2022 kam es zur Schließung des Theaters in seiner bisheri-
gen Form. Nach einer umfassenden Renovierung durch Architekt Philippe
Pumain und Modedesigner Alexis Mabille öffnet es nun als „Lido 2“. Die
neue Bühne zeigt Musicals und Großproduktionen in einem immersiven
Cabaretambiente: samtbezogene Stühle, Bistro-, pardon, Varietétische aus
Messing ... Opulenz pur. Unverkennbar prägend für den Entwurf und das
wohl auffälligste Gestaltungselement sind die individuell entworfenen Tep-
pichböden von Ege Carpets. Flammend rote, florale Muster im Stil des
Art Nouveau prägen Zuschauerraum und Bar. Der Eingangsbereich, die
Garderoben und der Sanitärbereich heben sich mit Teppichen in starken
Farben und cartoonhaften Sternornamenten ab. Hier wird das überbor-

In the 1940s, it was converted into a revue theatre where international
stars such as Laurel and Hardy and Marlene Dietrich performed. In 1977,
the music hall moved to an office building, also on the famous avenue,
which was completed in 1932 according to the plans of architect Jean
Desbouis. The building is also known as the “accordion” because of its
pleated façade – the outer wall of the top five floors is jagged and stands
out like a bay window from the façade below. With performances by
world stars such as Tom Jones and Elton John, the Lido also continued
its success story at this location. After renovation by architect Philippe
Pumain and fashion designer Alexis Mabille, it is now reopening as Lido
2. The new stage showcases musicals and large-scale productions in an
immersive cabaret atmosphere: velvet-covered chairs, brass tables... pure
opulence. Unmistakably characteristic of the design and the most striking
design element are the specifically designed carpets from Ege Carpets.
Flaming red, floral patterns in the Art Nouveau style characterize the audi-
torium and the bar. The entrance area, cloakrooms and restrooms have
carpets in strong colours. This is where the exuberant entertainment, the
eccentricity of the Parisian night is staged.
