Einblick: Eine Stadt für Zwei

Einen spannenden Ansatz zur zeitgenössischen Architektur Chinas liefert das Architek-
turbüro Wutopia Lab mit „Symbol: A City of Two“ für die Ausstellung „Unknown City“
im neu eröffneten Museum im chinesischen Pingshan. Die Installation stellt menschliche
Lebensabschnitte, anhand 18 Implikationen berühmter Architekten und Baumeister, in
den architektonischen Kontext, um Entwicklungsfragen zu diskutieren. Dabei zeigen sich
kontinentalübergreifende Ähnlichkeiten der Thematik und Problematik mit zukünftigen
Gestaltungen von Stadt und Raum. Diese „Stadt“ symbolisiert den Lebensweg zweier
Personen und konfrontiert Besucher mit ihren Versuchungen, Wünschen und sich selbst.

With its “Symbol: A City of Two” installation, the Shanghai Wutopia Lab architectural
office showed an intriguing approach. The installation puts the stages in human life into
an architectural context to discuss general development issues. A six by six metres “city”
is the base. Entering this city through a dark tunnel symbolizes two persons’ journey
who come into the world und are confronted with temptations, desires and themselves.
The task is to detect a total of 18 implications such as coloured surfaces and forms by Fotos: Wutopia Lab, CN-Shanghai
famous architects and master builders and to transfer them onto one’s own life.
