COUCH-19 – SOFA AUS EINWEGMASKEN VON ATELIER TOBIA ZAMBOTTI

C orona hat einen neuen Typ der Umweltverschmutzung hervorgebracht: den der me-
dizinischen Einwegmasken. Achtlos weggeworfen oder aus Versehen verloren, pfla-
stern sie die Plätze, Gehwege und Straßen im öffentlichen Raum. Recyceln lässt sich die-
ser medizinische Müll kaum. Meist endet er in der Müllverbrennungsanlage. Tobia Zam-
botti, Architekt und Innenarchitekt aus Italien, niedergelassen in Reykjavik, ließ aufge-
sammelte und mit Ozon desinfizierte Masken zum Design- und Kunstobjekt werden:
Couch-19 heißt das Sofa mit einer Hülle aus recycelbarem PVC. Der bläuliche Schimmer
erinnert an einen Eisberg und damit an eines der Symbole der Erderwärmung. wa

T he coronavirus pandemic has spawned a new type of environmental pollution:
disposable medical face masks. Carelessly discarded or accidentally lost, they
litter the squares, pavements and streets in the public space. This medical waste can
hardly be recycled. Most of it ends up in the incinerator. Tobia Zambotti, an architect
and interior designer from Italy who lives in Reykjavik, has turned masks that were
collected and disinfected with ozone into design and art objects: Couch-19 is the
name of the sofa with a cover made of recyclable PVC. The bluish shimmer is remi-
niscent of an iceberg and thus of one of the symbols of global warming.
