DENTAL PRACTICE
IN L’ALCÚDIA
In L’Alcúdia in Spain, south of Valencia, the Masquespacio
design studio was in charge of the new furnishing of a
dental practice. The designers Ana Hernández and Chris-
tophe Penasse gave the narrow and long layout on the
ground floor of a four-level residential- and office building
a fresh and contemporary makeover which makes one
forget that the rooms get hardly any natural daylight.
A na Hernández and Christophe Penasse are behind the Masquespa-
cio design studio and are thus the currently hippest couple in the
Spanish scene of interior design. Their joint works are contemporary in
the best sense of the term which, today, means that they are suitable for
„We decided to center our Instagram. And indeed the couple has a considerable fan base in social
networks. Among these are also the dentist Dr Alberto Manzano Saiz

L’Alcúdia, a mere half an hour by car south of Valencia. For several

smile; the use of turquoise internet before now daring to contact the couple and asking them to
submit a concept for the renovation of their practice. The dentist and his
green in combination with assistant were not quite sure whether the designers would accept the
white walls and ceilings job. So far, their works were restricted to hip bars and restaurants,
small, fine hostels and several designer stores. Hernández and Penasse
to maintain a clean image definitely did not have a practice in their portfolio! But Manzano’s and
and the use of organic Murillo’s worries were unfounded since the two designers were pleased
with the new challenge. And thus within just four weeks, the regular

Masquespacio Its design is limited to three main elements: the colours turquois and
white for the floor and the walls, organically curved built-in furniture
and partitions as well as a bright ceiling sculpture of 2,884 suspended
and white-painted wooden strips. They symbolize the white, brilliant
smile which is the goal of every treatment by Dr Manzano. At the same
time, they serve to guide the patients through the rooms. Thus the sculp-
ture runs like a band from the front entrance to the reception counter,
into the waiting area and finally on into the treatment rooms. The
colouring communicates freshness and pureness. The two most elabo-
rate elements of the design and those typical of Masquespacio are in the
waiting room. On the one hand, Hernández and Penasse designed for it
a curved wall with integrated flower boxes, on the other, an organic
seating landscape covered in brown and dark-blue leather was installed
