V irtualität eröffnet der Identitätsfindung völlig neue Möglichkeiten! Dank Virtual
Reality sind die Menschen nicht länger an die Grenzen des Physischen gebunden,
das Fiktive und Reale beginnt zu verschmelzen und steht nicht länger im Widerspruch
zueinander. Basierend auf diesen Neuerungen, der Queer Theory – einer in den 1990er-
Jahren aufkeimenden Kulturtheorie zu Geschlechtsidentitäten – und dem Werk „Cruising
Utopia“ von José Esteban Muñoz, das sich mit einer nicht-binären und queeren Version
der Welt befasst, entwarf Mario Montesinos Marco das Apartment Vi&Mela. Er versteht
dabei den bewohnten architektonischen Raum als Mittel einer selbst gestalteten Identi-
tät, die das Innere, wie die Psychologie, die politische Haltung und die Interessen eines
Individuums als physische Erscheinung nach außen trägt. Für die exklusiven Möbel des
Apartments machte sich der Innenarchitekt die 3D-Drucktechnik, industriell gefertigte
Veredelungen und Lasercut-Verfahren zunutze und schlägt so die Brücke zwischen com-
putergestützten Welten und der gestalteten Realität. Seine Objekte erscheinen dank ihrer
von konventioneller Ästhetik losgelösten Form geschmäcklerisch, aber sind dennoch
ausgefallen und mögliche Ausdrucksweise von Identität. Eine Farbpalette aus intensiven
Blau- und Grüntönen und die Vermischung von Licht, Texturen, kühlem Stahl, Glas und
glatten Kunststoffen tun ihr Übriges für den surreal anmutenden Stil Montesinos Marcos.
V irtuality opens up entirely new possibilities for exploring your identity! Thanks to
virtual reality, people are no longer bound by the limitations of the physical world,
and the boundaries between fiction and reality begin to blur and no longer contradict
each other. Based on these advancements, Queer Theory – a cultural theory that emerged
in the 1990s focusing on gender identities – and José Esteban Muñoz’s work Cruising
Utopia, which explores a non-binary and queer version of the world, Mario Montesinos
Marco designed the Vi&Mela apartment. He sees the inhabited architectural space as a
means of self-created identity, where the inner self, such as psychology, political stance,
and personal interests of an individual, is manifested outwardly in physical form. For the
exclusive furniture of the apartment, the interior designer utilized 3D printing technology,
industrially manufactured finishes, and laser-cut processes, bridging the gap between
computer-generated worlds and the designed reality. The objects, detached from conven-
tional aesthetics in their form, may appear subjective to individual taste but are nonethe-
less unique and potential expressions of identity. A colour scheme featuring intense blue
and green shades, combined with the interplay of light, textures, cool steel, glass and
smooth plastics, further contribute to Montesinos Marco’s surreal style.
