Filigrane Details kontrastieren mit der schweren Gebäude- und Gebirgsmasse. Kein Wind vermag es, diese „Kerzen“ auszublasen. • Filigree details contrast with the heavy mass of the building. No wind can blow out these “candles”.
T he hotel has existed for almost a century. The old building with 35 rooms was followed by a second section in
2003 and, in 2014, the client couple wanted 50 additional suites and invited five local architectural offices to a
competition. Michaela Wolf and Gerd Bergmeister from Brixen convinced with their extension building “in the layers”.
Lighting concept: plain construction, magnificent effect
The design of the unique and decorative lighting was created in close cooperation with Lichtstudio Eisenkeil: The
special products were made in the company´s Venetia manufacture from natural iron and spray-painted in the
desired colour. The careful selection of colour and the different wall textures increases the visitors´ sensuous ex-
perience and, even in the parking garage, creates a fascinating atmosphere. This is where a total of 46 ceiling lu-
minaires shine golden onto the otherwise very cold surfaces. Warm light as a complement for exposed concrete.
RAL 3007 black-red on the outside and golden on the inside, the lampshade ensures optimum reflection of the
warm light. Cut glass, inspired by a classic whisky glass, envelopes the “glowing wire”. Not surprising what a com-
fortable atmosphere the colour of light produces. Many small light points, similar to candlelight. On the origin:
Prior to light, colour and space, form mattered in the design process. The duo of architects made no secret of the
fact that they were more interested in the topography than in the existing architecture. To quote the competition
winners verbatim: “You are not to build in a place, but you are to build the place.” bergmeisterwolf architecture
is known for using simple volumes for entering into dialogue with its immediate surroundings, and interacting
with it. “Form follows Nature.” But not only in its language of form but also with its material does the architecture
fit seamlessly into the place. Aggregates of local rock were mixed into the concrete for a reddish look. The Belve-
dere hotel not only does credit to the surrounding porphyry – ancient Greek for the colour purple – but also to its
own name. Bel vedere: beautiful view! The valley opens the wide panoramic view in the direction of the Dolomi-
tes. Beside the suites is the two-level parking garage with openings for attractive views in and out. The garage
uses the morphology of the slope and allows direct access to both levels. bergmeisterwolf lived up to their phi-
losophy: the respectful encounter of what has been built with the landscape. Grundriss • Floor plan
