The use of artistic design elements made of coloured glass is
currently enjoying increasing popularity again. Whether as
ingeniously designed tableware or decorative home accessories,
craftsmanship is once again finding its way into interior design.
Creating filigree works of art from a brittle and fragile material
represents a constant fascination. At over eighty, Lino
Tagliapietra is not only an ambassador for the Murano glass tra-
dition but continues to work tirelessly as a glassblower. He cur-
rently runs two studios in Murano and Seattle. His sculptural
works are characterised by elegant shapes in which he com-
bines the Venetian tradition of this craft with contemporary
design. With his works of art, which are exhibited in more than
50 museums worldwide, Tagliapietra wants to convey his feel-
ings about the materiality of glass and leave effective impres-
sions with his viewers. His intention—to continue promoting the
development of glass art—also shaped his new and specially
conceived exhibition, which he dedicated as a gift to his birth-
place Murano. With "Ali in Vetro" he also opened the Murano
Glass Conference, which took place from 17 to 26 May 2018 on
the iconic island.
