Verena Könekamp combines state-of-the-art textiles with
screen-printing techniques to create artworks that are not only
visually striking but also acoustically effective. As a textile design
engineer, she has collaborated multiple times with renowned
architectural firms such as LRO Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei
on art-in-architecture projects, seamlessly merging aesthetic
precision with spatial experience. Her current works continue
this dedicated exploration of material, colour and space. “Colour
resonates deep within us,” Könekamp explains – a principle
she brings to life through the technique of free split-fountain
printing. Each piece is a unique hand print on coarse wool fabric,
meaning that it is impossible to reproduce them in identical
form. Three motifs take centre stage: Landschaft 1 (Landscape 1)
in radiant yellow, dazwischen das silber (the silver in between),
oscillating between magenta and orange, and Lichtung (clearing)
in rich green. These colour fields are intersected by vertical and
horizontal structures that create depth and dynamic movement.
Through layered compositions, subtle nuances emerge that vary
depending on the light and viewing angle. Könekamp’s work
is defined by a clean design vocabulary that responds to the
architecture of the surrounding space. By altering the perception
of surface and volume, her pieces introduce both visual and
acoustic impulses. The textile medium gives them a tangible
presence that unfolds differently depending on the viewer’s
position in the room. By combining innovative textile techniques
with precise printmaking, Könekamp remains true to her artistic
vision: colour, material and structure engage in a dialogue that
transcends the surface, directly addressing the senses.
