L ow cost, low tech, low resources, but maximum identity! Auf diesen Nenner lässt
sich das von Ramos Castellano Arquitectos umgebaute Nationale Zentrum für Kunst,
Kunsthandwerk und Design, das CNAD, auf São Vicente im Atlantik bringen. Fast alle
Dinge des Alltags werden auf Schiffen in Metallfässern, sprich barrels, auf die kleine Insel
im Atlantik importiert. Die Architekten machten das „unterschätze Objekt“ der Fassdek-
kel zum Prinzip der doppelt ventilierten, farbenfrohen Fassade. Jeder Farbton entspricht
zudem einer Note, denn der lokale Komponist und Musiker Vasco Martins komponierte
eigens für das CNAD eine Fassaden-Musik. Archimusic – poetisch! wa
L ow cost, low tech, low resources, but maximum identity! The National Arts, Crafts
and Design Centre, the CNAD, on the island of São Vicente in the Atlantic and con-
verted by Ramos Castellano Arquitectos, can be reduced to this common denomina-
tor. Almost all everyday items have to be imported to the small island in the Atlantic

of barrel lids the basic elements of the double-ventilated, colourful façade. Each co-
lour also corresponds to a note. This is because the local composer and musician
