Iranian architect Mohammed Hassan Forouzanfar calls his latest project Retrofuturism. In this
project he combines the remains and ruins of historical structures from his homeland with
well-known contemporary buildings and works of art. His intention is, on the one hand, to
point out the increasing decay of the monuments, many of which are protected as UNESCO
World Heritage Sites, and, on the other hand, to start a dialogue about new ways and me-
thods of conservation, restoration and reconstruction. He calls for a new critical and avant-
garde approach to the artefacts of Iran's long architectural history. Last but not least, he is
also interested in a new connection between Occident and Orient, between past and future.
