D as Studium an der Adler University widmet sich vorrangig dem ge-
sellschaftlichen Engagement sowie einer sozial verantwortlichen
Praxis. Damit entspricht das Lehrangebot den Werten Al fred Adlers
(1870–1937), der sich als Psychologe und Therapeut verstärkt in seiner
Gemein de einbrachte und als Namensge ber der Universität gilt, die 1952
als Institut für Psychologie in Chicago gegründet wurde. Auf diesem
Aspekt aufbauend, soll sich auch die Interaktion zwischen Studenten und
dem gesellschaftlichen sowie städtischen Um feld in der Architektur des
neu gestalteten Uni versitätsgebäudes in Vancouver widerspiegeln. Das für
das Design verantwortliche Team von Public: Architecture + Communi -
cation entschied, mithilfe der gläsernen Fassade die starke Farbig keit der
Innen räume in den Außenraum zu transportieren. Durch diese extrover-
tierte Farbgestaltung der ers ten fünf Etagen weckt das Ge bäude Interesse
und wirkt einladend. Schiebe elemente und skulpturale Treppen im Inne-
ren unterstreichen den Aspekt der Vernetzung und die Ges te der Öffnung
gegenüber der Gesellschaft. Sitzmöbel von Andreu World ergänzen dieses
Konzept mit mo dernen Formen und kräftigen Farben. Mal fügen sie sich
in das Spek trum der Farb familie der jeweiligen Etage – mal stechen sie
komplementär hervor. Ob als Lounge Chair Alya mit hoher oder niedriger
Rücken lehne, mit passendem Hocker oder mit Dual-Occasional-Tisch

munity and gave his name to the university which was founded as the
Institute of Adlerian Psychology in Chicago in 1952. Based on this aspect,
the interactions between the students and the social as well as the urban
environment are also to be reflected in the architecture of the newly de-
signed university building in Vancouver. The team from Public: Architec-
ture + Communication responsible for the design decided to use the gla-
zed façade to transpose the strong colourfulness of the interiors into the
outside space. Thanks to this extroverted colour design of the first five
levels, the building attracts attention and looks inviting. Sliding elements
and sculptural stairs inside emphasize the aspect of interconnectedness
and the gesture of opening up to society. Pieces of seating furniture by
Andreu World complement this concept with modern forms and strong
colours. In some places, they integrate into the spectrum of the colour
range of the respective floor – whereas, in other places, they stand out in
a complementary manner. Whether as the Alya lounge chair with a high
or low backrest, with a matching stool or combined with the Dual Occa-
sional table – the furniture always promotes inspiring learning.
