LOUD SHADOWS – TEMPORÄRE BÜHNE VON PLASTIQUE FANTASTIQUE AUF TERSCHELLING

I st das jetzt Architektur? Oder ist es Raum? Diese
philosophischen Fragen werfen die Installa tionen von
Plastique Fantastique auf. 1999 formierte sich in Berlin eben
jene Gruppe Kreativer. Mit ihrer Plattform für temporäre
Architektur traten sie an, um die Performance-Möglich keiten
im urbanen Raum auszuloten. Dazu ersannen die Macher
pneumatische Installa tionen. Und sie demonstrierten, wie
wenig Materie es bedarf, um ephemere Räume entstehen zu
lassen. Die Wirkung der transparenten Hüllen ist verblüffend,
denn die blasen- und schlauchförmigen Gebilde zeigen, wie
hauchdünn der Unterschied zwischen innen und außen,
davor und dahinter, zwischen trennen und verbinden sein
kann. Mit zahlrei chen internationalen Projekten begeistert
Plastique Fantastique immer wieder, und zwar längst nicht
mehr nur im städti schen Kontext. Das hier gezeigte Projekt
wurde im vergangenen Jahr im Rahmen des Oerol Festivals
auf der niederländischen Insel Terschelling realisiert. Zwei
Bubbles und ein ringförmiges Verbindungs element dienten
als Kulisse für die Musik-, Tanz- und Gesangs per formance, die
Plastique Fantastique mit den Künstlern Kate Moore, The Stolz
und LeineRoebana in einer Waldlichtung realisierten. Blasen -
förmige Raumhüllen faszinieren Architekten, Künstler und ihr
Publikum immer wieder. Eine Generation zuvor, in den
1960er/1970er-Jahren, hatten beispielsweise Haus-Rucker-Co
oder Coop Himmelb(l)au mit entmaterialisierten Hüllen experi-
mentiert. Blasen sind schließlich so alt wie die Menschheit.
Pränatal bilden sie die erste temporäre Behausung. wa
I s this architecture? Or is this space? The installations of
Plastique Fantastique raise these philosophical questions.
In 1999, this group of creative people was formed in Berlin.
With their platform for temporary architecture, they set out to
explore the performance possibilities in the urban space. For
this purpose, the doers conceived pneumatic installations.
And they demonstrated how little matter is needed to create
ephemeral spaces. The effect of the transparent envelopes is
astonishing because the bubble- and tube-shaped structures
illustrate how wafer-thin the difference between inside and
outside, before and behind, separating and connecting can
be. With numerous international projects, Plastique
Fantastique has inspired again and again, and not only in an
urban context. The project shown here was implemented last
year as part of the Oerol Festival on the Dutch island of
Terschelling. Two bubbles and a ring-shaped connecting ele-
ment served as the backdrop for the music, dance and
singing performance, which Plastique Fantastique staged on
a forest clearing with the artists Kate Moore, The Stolz and
LeineRoebana. Bubble-shaped spatial envelopes fascinate
architects, artists and their audiences time and again. A gen-
eration earlier, in the 1960s/1970s, Haus-Rucker-Co or Coop
shells. After all, bubbles are as old as mankind. Prenatally,
Himmelblau, for example, experimented with dematerialised
