U nweit des Züricher Bahnhofs, im Stadtteil Europaallee, schuf das
ortsansässige Architektur büro Burkhard & Lüthi eine moderne
Begegnungsstätte mit einer Fläche von 4.719 Quadrat metern, verteilt
auf drei Geschosse. Herzstück ist das Forum im Erdgeschoss, das Platz
für Veranstaltungen in einer Größenordnung von bis zu 300 Personen
bietet. Von diesem aus führt eine Treppe, die neben der simplen
Verbindung der Geschosse auch als Bühne und Sitzgelegenheit dient,
in das Obergeschoss, wo ein Buchsalon mit einem angeschlossenen
Café liegt. Eine offene Raumstruktur soll dort Kommunikation und
Vernetzung anregen, bei Bedarf kann mittels Vorhängen eine zugleich
optische und akustische Abgrenzung geschaffen werden. Möbel und
Wandverkleidungen aus Sperrholzplatten, das roh belassene
Betontragwerk sowie das offen an der Decke laufende Lüftungssystem
verleihen den Räumlichkeiten einen industriellen Charme. Kontrastiert
wird dieser in Farbigkeit und Materialität durch Vorhänge und
Polsterbezüge. Die sechs im Untergeschoss angesiedelten Kinosäle –
von denen drei auch als Auditorium genutzt werden können – bieten
insgesamt 800 Sitzplätze. Sowohl bei den Vorhängen im Buchsalon als
auch bei den Polstermöbeln im Bistro setzen die Architekten auf Stoffe
des Schweizer Textilspezialisten Création Baumann. Diese überzeugen
nicht nur durch die herausragenden akustischen Eigenschaften, son-
dern lassen sich auch ideal in das Farbkonzept integrieren. lr
N district, the local Burkhard & Lüthi architectural office designed
a modern meeting place with an area of 4,719 square metres that is
spread over three floors. The core is the forum on the ground floor
which offers room for events for up to 300 participants. From this,
stairs – which besides simply connecting the levels also serve as a
stage and seating – lead up to the upper floor where a book salon
with an affiliated café is situated. An open room structure is there to
stimulate communication and networking; if required, curtains pro-
duce visual as well as acoustic separation whenever required.
Furniture and wall cladding consist of plywood panels; the concrete
supporting structure left untreated as well as the ventilation system
openly running along the ceiling give the premises an industrial
charm. The latter is contrasted as regards the colouring and the mate-
rial with curtains and upholstery covers. The six cinemas located on
the lower level – of which three can also be used as an auditorium –
offer a total of 800 seats. For the curtains in the book salon as well
as for the upholstered furniture, the architects decided in favour of
fabrics from the Swiss textile specialist Création Baumann. These not
