B üro bei Tag, Club in der Nacht – ein durchaus interessantes Doppelleben! Auf der
Suche nach neuen Büroflächen stieß das Architektenteam von Studioninedots auf
eine verlassene Lagerhalle im Karperweg am südlichen Rand von Amsterdam. Zusam-
men mit acht weiteren Kreativbüros entstand die Idee für Karper K. – ein Ort, an dem
nicht nur gearbeitet, sondern auch gefeiert werden kann. Tagsüber ermöglicht das offene
Konzept in der weitläufigen, lichten Halle ein symbiotisches, firmenübergreifendes Agie-
ren, abends wird der langgestreckte Raum daneben – in Funktion und Nutzung völlig
offen – für eine Vielzahl von kulturellen Veranstaltungen, Ausstellungen, Materialtests
und nächtlichen Events genutzt und durch ein Beleuchtungssystem in Szene gesetzt. Die
Einheit von Karper K. und allen Nutzern wird durch Wände und Schränke in einem ein-
heitlichen Grauton visualisiert – so entsteht eine durchgängige, ruhige Farb- und Formen-
sprache. Weitestgehend erhalten blieb der industrielle Charakter des Gebäudes, so auch
das Sheddach, das tagsüber die Arbeitsflächen perfekt mit genügend natürlichem Licht
versorgt. Farbakzente im ansonsten monochromen Grau setzen Möbel, Pflanzen und
lackierte Tragstrukturen. Zentrales Element ist das durchgängige Schrankmodul neben
den Arbeitsplätzen, das Stauraum und Besprechungsnischen bietet. Studioninedots ist
um neue Büroflächen und Amsterdam um einen kulturellen Hotspot reicher geworden.
O ffice by day, club by night – a truly interesting double life! While searching for
new office space, the architects at Studioninedots came across an abandoned
warehouse on Karperweg, at the southern edge of Amsterdam. Together with eight other
creative studios, they developed the idea for Karper K. – a space designed not only for
working but also for partying. During the day, the open-plan concept within the expansi-
ve, light-filled hall enables symbiotic, cross-company activities. In the evening, the adja-
cent elongated space – completely flexible in both function and use – transforms into a
venue for cultural events, exhibitions, material tests and late-night happenings, brought
to life by a dynamic lighting system. The unity of Karper K. and its users is visually rein-
forced by walls and cabinets in a uniform grey shade, creating a seamless, calm aesthetic
in both colour and form. The building’s industrial character has been largely preserved,
including its sawtooth roof, which floods the workspace with natural daylight. Splashes of
colour in the otherwise monochrome grey interior come from furniture, plants and pain-
ted structural elements. At the heart of the design is a continuous wall module alongside
the workstations, offering both space for storage and niches for meetings. In the end,
Studioninedots gained a new office, and Amsterdam gained a vibrant cultural hotspot.
