FIRMENSITZ BETON EISACK
IN KLAUSEN
Entwurf • Design pedevilla architects, IT-Bruneck
von • by Annette Weckesser
B eton Eisack” is written in large, prominently visible letters on the front of the angled,
floating structure that architects Armin Blasbichler and Matthias Rainer added to
the headquarters of Beton Eisack in the South Tyrolean town of Klausen in 2002. This
striking “gate to the company premises” was, of course, made of concrete and reconciled
the heavy and the light. About 20 years later, pedevilla architects were commissioned
to modernise the interiors. The renowned architectural firm, known for its iconic design
vocabulary, seized the opportunity to emphasise the company’s expertise and the atmo-
spheric potential of concrete. Future-proof open-plan and individual offices as well as
meeting rooms were created. At the heart of it all is a seminar and event area. Inner
courtyards and dome-like skylights improve daylighting and sound insulation, as the
building is located directly on the Brenner motorway. The two courtyards now provide
the office staff with noise-protected outdoor areas. Green-pigmented lightweight concre-
te in various surface finishes, black steel and glass characterise the interior. Visually stri-
king and acoustically relevant is the perforated structure in the sloping ceilings: acoustic
insulation is inserted into the conical holes. The cavities behind them form an acoustic
resonating body. In the seminar wing, they also serve for air circulation.
