IN FÜRTH
A high noise level and little scope for individual de-
sign or, on the other hand, a creative exchange of
ideas in a flexible work environment – the attitudes
to open-plan offices vary widely. When converting a
classic office floor into a modern company headquar-
ters, the Munich architects of Die Planstelle designed
1
a differentiated room structure.
H ow does the kind of environment look where we can work together
in a setting which we feel is as close to ideal as possible? This is the
question which the Onlineprinters e-commerce group focused on when
the company began to plan its new headquarters to be located in Fürth.
A diversified office landscape was to be designed which manages to ac-
commodate a wide range of different forms of working and, at the same
time, provides a recognizable structure without separating the overall
area into different closed zones. To the existing large space, the architects
2 from Die Planstelle designed and added an ingenious filigree system of
wooden frames which, in combination with various writable and sound-
absorbing panels, produces a structure of open, semi-open and closed
3 work areas and lounges. In rusty red, the CI colour of the company, rows
of supports extend as a continuum over the whole floor and thus inte-
grate all the rooms of the surface divided into three sections. In the cen-
tre is the multifunction so-called marketplace zone intended for sponta-

neous, informal exchange. From the shielded niche sofa to randomly po-
sitioned seating groups to the meeting cubicles and phone booths for un-

disturbed calls, each form of communication was given the suitable set-
ting. Along the façades, this open-space area is flanked by well-illumina-

ted shared office areas which are subdivided into islands for individual,
concentrated working thanks to an innovative, acoustically efficient fur-
4 niture system. Fabric-covered partitions at half height in red and various
complementary shades of grey-green create privacy and add colourful
