Ein Druckluftsystem im Trailer bläst eine doppelwandige Kuppel auf und erweitert diesen so um ein Obergeschoss. • A compressed air system in the trailer inflates a double-walled dome, expanding it to include an upper floor.

A ufgeblasen, aber durchaus funktional – das ist E22SS PUMPITUP!, ein nomadisches
Experiment des luxemburgischen Architekturbüros 2001 für die Stadt Esch-sur-Alzette.
Die Basis bildet ein doppelachsiger Edelstahl-Trailer, karg und reflektierend. Im Inneren
findet sich eine kompakte Küche, ein Badezimmer und ein Essbereich, alles auf das
Wesentliche reduziert. Doch dann passiert es: Das Dach hebt sich, eine pneumatische
Doppelhülle bläst sich auf, und ein zweites Geschoss entsteht – rund, mit Korkboden und
aufblasbaren Matratzen für sechs Personen, erreichbar per Treppe oder Hebebühne. Was-
ser wird recycelt, der Raum wird nur lokal beheizt. Ein Architektur-Utopium auf Rädern. sf

I nflated yet fully functional – that’s E22SS PUMPITUP!, a nomadic experiment by
Luxembourg-based architecture firm 2001 for the City of Esch-sur-Alzette. The basis
is a dual-axle stainless steel trailer, which is austere and reflective. Inside there is a
compact kitchen, a bathroom and a dining area, all reduced to the essentials. But
then it happens: The roof opens up, a pneumatic double membrane inflates and a
second storey emerges – circular, with cork flooring and inflatable mattresses for six
people, accessible via stairs or a lifting platform. Water is recycled, and the room is
only heated locally. A mobile architectural utopia.
