ROCA EXHIBITION
STAND IN BOLOGNA
Infinite Majesty: With no lesser claim, the Spanish Roca
Group presented itself at Cersaie in Bologna in Septem-
ber 2021. Masquespacio did not show the latest collecti-
ons like exhibits but turned them into the stand. The de-
sign concept is based on the majestic, timeless aesthe-
tics of Greek and Roman antiquity interpreted by the Va-
lencia design studio and surrealistically alienated.
A lready in 2020, Masquespacio – Ana Milena Hernández Palacios
and Christophe Penasse – had staged the exhibition appearance of
the Roca Group at the Casa Décor design- and lifestyle exhibition in Ma-
drid. With Infinite Majesty in Bologna, the interior designer and the mar-
keting expert take up the theme of classic antiquity implemented at the
time. Spheres, cones, cylinders, cubes and prisms, circles, rectangles
and round arches invoke geometrical basic elements in the form of the
latest Roca porcelain stoneware. Marble Arcobaleno Blanco and Verde,
Topazio and Saint Tropez actively form the exhibition stand itself and are
Seitliche Fassade mit Logo und Schnitt • Side facade with logo and section not passively displayed as products at the stand. The heart of the instal-
lation is a rotunda which is framed by surrealistic-looking columns. This
central space is equipped with sitting furniture, side tables and luminai-
res in postmodern Memphis style – all made of porcelain stoneware. In
this way, the visual and the technical qualities of the high-tech material
quite incidentally reveal themselves. Roca makes no secret of the origi-
nal marble examples. Topazio has been inspired by the calm, jade-green
beauty of Rajasthan Green Marble. Analogue to the Renaissance, the
perspectively tapering entrance portal of the stand has been construc-
ted. Marble Arcobaleno Blanco and Verde – made of 50 percent pre-con-
sumer recycled material – is an interpretation of marble in shades of
white and cream with lively emerald-green and coral-coloured veins, iri-
descent reflexions and ultra-high gloss. For Saint Tropez – a mixture of
dark shades of brown, green, black and grey with blue accents – natural
stone from India, Turkey and Italy was the inspiration. The furnishing is
characterized by light-dark bandings as they are known from architectu-
ral history. The translucent curtains between the massive columns ap-
pear to be almost immaterial and weightless. Mirrors reflect the staged
timelessness. The Roca Group itself is able to look back on 105 years of
company history – long a global player but still in the hands of the fa-
mily. Marc Viardot who, from 2010 to 2020, turned the Swiss Laufen
brand belonging to the Roca Group into a premium bathroom label is
