Studio 10 versus M.C. Escher

Unmögliche Figuren und optische Täuschungen zählen unverkennbar zu den Merk malen
der Werke von M.C. Escher (1898–1972). In der chinesischen Provinz Guangxi haben es die
kreativen Köpfe von Studio 10 nun gewagt, die Zeichnungen des niederländischen Gra -
fikers in den gebauten Raum zu übertragen. Das Boutique Hotel The Other Place – Guilin
Litopia bietet Reisenden zehn ganz unterschiedlich gestaltete Apartments. Zwei davon –
Dream (Traum) und Maze (Laby rinth) – eröffnen dem Gast klare Räume mit ver wirrenden
Ebenen. Technische Installationen wie Schalter sind konsequent verborgen, wodurch die
illusionistische Wirkung vor der Kulisse plakativer Farben voll zur Geltung kommt.

Impossible figures and optical illusions are the most impressive features of the works by
M.C. Escher (1898 - 1972). In the Chinese province of Guangxi, the creative minds of
Studio 10 have dared to transfer the drawings by the Dutch graphic artists into built space.
The boutique hotel The Other Place – Guilin Litopia now offers travellers a choice of ten
completely differently designed apartments. Two of them surprise the guests as clear-cut
rooms with confusing levels. Technical installations are consistently concealed which
makes the illusory effect against the backdrop of striking colours come into its own.
