It’s almost dizzying! Sometimes he is looking up, sometimes
looking down – interesting perspectives on architecture and
colour composition always emerge. With the “Staircase Dreams”
series, photographer Peter Plorin captures views of various
staircases from around the world and throughout different
eras. This change in perspective offers fresh views of everyday
objects, focusing on lines and shapes, making the extraordinary
visible within the ordinary. Plorin, who grew up in a small town
in the Lower Rhine region, was influenced by the local industrial
heritage and architectural diversity. Before dedicating himself
to photography, he worked as a fine artist, honing a precise
eye for spatial depth and specific principles of composition. His
photographic art now primarily focuses on expressive and high-
contrast subjects, particularly in the realms of architecture and
landscapes. Quite often, his interior and exterior shots exude a
touch of mystique and an enigmatic ambiance. The artist aims
to reveal the mysterious and the intangible, aiming to evoke
emotions. The consistent success of his photographs, which
have already been recognised with over 50 international awards,
demonstrates how effectively he achieves this goal. Among
these, the artist’s participation as a finalist in the prestigious
Sony World Photography Awards in the architecture category
is particularly noteworthy. Another significant achievement
was Plorin’s first-place finish and the Gold Star Award at the
esteemed ND Award 2022 for the “Staircase Dreams” project
showcased here. For those interested in viewing more of these
striking architectural photographs, you can find them on the
artist’s website and social media channels.
