RAIFFEISEN ADVISORY
BANK IN AARBERG
Traditional, local references with a modern interpreta-
tion: For the new advisory bank in historic Aarberg, the
interior architects from Gehri took their inspiration from
„Die in Anlehnung an die alte Holzbrücke the history of the “Stedtli” going back to the Middle

ture welcome its clientele at eye level and produces pa-

Charakteristik eines Marktplatzes.“
Gehri Innenarchitektur A s a landmark of Aarberg, a covered wooden bridge, which is several
centuries old, leads to the lively Stadtplatz. Due to its strategically
favourable location at one of Europe’s most important trading routes,
the so-called Stedtli used to be a booming market- and trading spot al-
ready as early as in the Middle Ages. Its historic influences can be noti-
ced to this day at numemrous façades of the little town. The local inte-
rior architects from Gehri Innenarchitektur AG transferred these influen-
ces onto the premises and the materials selected of an advisory bank
for Raiffeisen Seeland. Towards the south and oriented towards Stadt-
platz, the front of the building has been designed to look open and in-
viting so that the visitors are allowed focussed insights into the interior
of the new bank branch. In the front and freely organized section one
finds an integrated 24-hour zone with automatic tellers for paying in and
retrieving money – so no cash is exchanged at the counters. Mobile stan-
ding desks are also freely placed in the room and, since they consist of
lively oak wood and structured wickerwork, form an analogy to the
Schnitt • Section market stands of Stadtplatz and the covered wooden bridge across the
Alte Aare River. At night, this open reception area can be separated from
the 24-hour self-service zone with a mobile glass partition. In addition
to a bar and an open living room – to be used as a venue for events –
the rooms at the back also serve as additional consultation rooms
which offer the possibility for retreating into a more private setting. Er-
gonomic workstations for the female and male employees adapt quite
naturally to this overall concept. When selecting the materials, authen-
ticity and sustainability as well as the integration of regional references
have been in the foreground. A blue-grey floor of Jura limestone empha-
sizes the location of Aarberg near the Jura mountain range. Walls pain-
ted in simple colours of natural pigments, furniture and wall panelling
of oak wood as well as metal components in bright pearl orange add a
discreet but still attractive contrast – the result is a lively consulting at-
mosphere which welcomes the visitors to this bank branch with a clever
