M anch einer mag der populärsten Fototechnik der Gegenwart, dem Selfie, mangeln -
den Realitätsbezug vorwerfen. Doch auch im wahren Leben muss in Zukunft nicht
auf die Inszenierung verzichtet werden: Mit Halo hat die Doktorandin Nan Zhao eine trag-
bare Leuchte entwickelt, die sich den Stimmungen, Outfits und Tätigkeiten des Trägers
anpasst. Sobald Halo aufgesetzt wird, beleuchtet ein mit LEDs bestückter Aluminiumring
das Gesicht des Benutzers. Über eine App lassen sich die Lichtkompositionen und damit
das Erscheinungsbild des Trägers auf Knopfdruck verändern. Ob das die Be leuchtung der

M any people might accuse the most popular contemporary technique of taking
photographs, the selfie, of an insufficient relation to reality. But even in real life,
one need not forgo proper staging in the future: Doctoral student Nan Zhao has devel-
oped the portable Halo luminaire, which adapts to the moods, outfits and activities of
the person carrying it. As soon as Halo is put on, an aluminium ring equipped with
LEDs illuminates the user’s face. The light composition and thus the appearance of the
wearer are easily adjusted via an app. Will this be the illumination of the future? For
