becomes a favourite piece that is repaired and whose value extends beyond the purely
material value. This applies equally to our architecture and the luminaires, as well
as to the quality of the workspaces. My company Georg Bechter Licht makes lumin-
aires repairable and recyclable. Everything is screwed on, not glued. Only high-quality
materials are used that do not lose their value over the years. We buy back luminaires
that are no longer used, giving them a second life. With reparability, durability and
good design, I want to reduce the ecological footprint to a minimum – in product
design and in architecture. My office, Georg Bechter Architecture, also repeatedly asks
itself how materials can be used as sparingly, efficiently and purposefully as possible.
The question of necessity therefore shaped the extension in equal measure as the
search for synergies. For example, the underfloor heating on the ground floor was laid
directly in the concrete slab. No further construction was required. In the floor slab,
too, underfloor heating and underlay timbers for the wooden floor above are already
integrated in the top concrete layer. Lighting- and electrical channels were milled into
the soffit of the ceiling, which also eliminates the need for a suspended ceiling. The
result is a slim, material-efficient ceiling construction and spacious rooms with long-
term flexibility. The façade boards and paving stones that were removed during the
construction work were reused. The same applies to the exhibition stand from Light &
Building. The solid beechwood panels – also from our own forest – now serve as shel-
ves in the new production area. Regional value creation and a vision of sustainable
and future-oriented economic activity characterize our work and can be seen in the
new showroom. Both are made tangibly clear in the extension. Grundriss Tiefgarage • Deep-level garage
