                                                                          A positive view of the world is always helpful – and especially

                                                                          now, as winter draws to a close, it might not hurt to immerse it

                                                                          entirely in ice cream colours! That’s what Brazilian photographer

                                                                          Gleici Rufatto does, capturing the urban environment of her

                                                                          chosen home, Los Angeles, with playful ease. Instead of depicting

                                                                          the cool, grey architecture of a megacity, the young artist creates

                                                                          a harmonious and fantastic cityscape that evokes a desire for

                                                                          spring and joie de vivre. Of course, even under the Californian


                                                                          sun, not all things look rosy all the time – Rufatto post-processes
                                                                          her  images  with  a  colour  filter.  Through  pastel  tones  and


                                                                          reduced shapes, the photographer creates simple geometric

                                                                          portraits  of  a  sunny  metropolis  with  block-like  compositions

                                                                          and a blue sky in the background. The deliberate fragmentary

                                                                          representation of architecture diminishes the depth of the image

                                                                          space, turning it into  a pure two-dimensional composition.

                                                                          This blurs the boundaries between reality and a pink-coloured

                                                                          dream world that exudes tranquillity, peace and equilibrium.

                                                                          In front of these images, viewers can meditate: here, seem to

                                                                          hear the faint chirping of a cricket, there, a child laughing in

                                                                          the distance, and a bird twittering. The images, which operate

                                                                          between intuition and mathematical logic, invite viewers to look

                                                                          intently and contemplate: How do we find peace and aesthetics

                                                                          in our everyday surroundings? For her joyful and simultaneously

                                                                          minimalist  work,  Gleici  Rufatto  has  already  received  several

                                                                          photography awards, including in the “Abstract” category in the

                                                                          field of professional architectural photography at the renowned

                                                                          IPA International Photo Awards 2023, as well as the Minimalist

                                                                          Photography Awards 2022.
