W ie sollte es anders sein – es dreht sich alles um den Apfel im Apfelhotel Torgg lerhof
in Saltaus im Südtiroler Passeiertal. Ideengeber für das Entwurfskonzept von noa*
stellt daher der Zyklus des Apfels im Jahresverlauf dar: Blütezeit, Erntezeit, Veredelung
und Ruhezeit. Umgeben von unzähligen Apfel bäumen und grünen Wiesen verteilen sich
der Obstbauernhof und das Hotel auf drei Gebäude und bilden einen Haufenhof. Das
bereits bestehende Hotel wurde um neun Zimmer und einen Wellnessbereich erweitert,
während die öffentlichen Bereiche – wie Rezeption, Restau rant und Bar – innerhalb des
Bestandes neu gestaltet wurden. Die zusätzlichen Zimmer sind jetzt im alten Stadel
untergebracht, wobei dessen äußere Struktur als solche bestehen blieb, das Tragwerk
freigelegt und die Fassade mit Loggien und großen Glaselementen aufgelockert wurde.
Für die Gestaltung des Schlafbereichs und der Bäder stand die klassische Apfelkiste Pate
und das Erdgeschoss verwandelte sich in ein Museum mit Verkaufsfläche, in dem die
Geschichte des Apfelanbaus und des Torgglerhofs erläutert wird. Der Wellness bereich, der
im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes tief in die umliegende Natur eintaucht, befindet sich tat-
sächlich in einer völlig begrünten Struktur. Von außen nur als Hügel ersichtlich, bildet er
im Inneren – mit Sauna, Umkleide, Dusche und Ruhebereich – einen nahezu mystischen
Raum voller Intimität und Privatheit und steht für das Ende des Zyklus, die Ruhezeit.

A s one would have expected, everything revolves around the apple in the Apple Hotel
Torgglerhof in Saltaus. Consequently, the ideas for the design concept by noa* were
derived from the cycle of the apple over the course of the year: blooming period, harvest,
grafting, and dormancy. Surrounded by countless apple trees and green meadows, the
fruit farm and the hotel are distributed over three buildings, which form a so-called
“Haufenhof”, a typical style of local farmsteads. The already existing hotel was extended
by nine rooms and a wellness area, while the public areas – such as the reception, restau-
rant and bar –in the existing buildings were redesigned. The additional rooms are now
accommodated in the old barn, whereby its exterior structure as such was preserved,
while the load-bearing structure was exposed and the façade was loosened up with log-
gias and large glass elements. The classic apple box served as a model for the design of
the sleeping area and the bathrooms, and the ground floor was turned into a museum
with a sales area, where the history of apple cultivation and the Torgglerhof is illustrated.
The wellness area, which literally immerses in the surrounding nature, is actually located
inside a completely greened structure. From the outside only apparent as a hill, its inte-
rior – with a sauna, changing room, shower, and relaxation area – forms an almost mys-
tical room full of intimacy and privacy, representing the end of the cycle, the dormancy.
