The presentation room meets various requirements
The concept of the colour and materials which were chosen, a subdued shade of
white, supports the necessary desired reflections of the light. For the complementing
installations, we used the matte surface of Corian solid-surface material which elimi-
nates undesired light mirroring but allows perfect light reflection for the testing. A
smoothed brown-grey cement floor is the neutral base and links the sensory-analysis
zone with the adjacent presentation room. The consistent floor produces visual spa-
ciousness. For the lower parts of the walls in the sensory-analysis unit, we used
matte, white is abrasion-resistant paint. A neutral white curtain runs along the upper
part of the room and has antitoxic features in addition to the acoustic qualities. This
means that it is able to absorb smells in the room and to filter them. In the presen-
tation room as well, we decided in favour of a suspended ceiling to conceal the neces-
sary installations of air-conditioning-, ventilation- and fire-alarm technology. At the
same time, the new ceiling improves room acoustics. Whenever a pillar stands in the
way of the planner, it can either be costly removed or, as happened here, it can be Grundriss • Floor plan
carefully refurbished and used as a design feature! The table where the employees
gather for creative meetings was therefore designed around the central pillar in the
room. It allows the users to react to the individual space requirements. With just a
single movement, one desk is turned into two. Thus the essential, statically needed
pillar is given a new function after the conversion. Our conclusion after the conversi-
on is – true to the well-known Mumm advertising slogan: Sometimes it just has to be
